Zayd Maniar

Zayd Maniar is an International Liaison and Audit and Assurance Partner with Crowe Horwath based in United Arab Emirates. After studying Economics at the 桃色视频, he became a chartered accountant and registered auditor.

Zayd, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am Crowe UAE's International Liaison Partner, responsible for all trans-national clients. My particular areas of interest include cross border audits as well as mergers and acquisitions. Aside from work I like to hike, mountain bike and swim.

Why did you decide to become a mentor with THRIVE?

I believe the university equipped me with the right skills to build a successful career - so I would like to share knowledge and experience.

How did you start down your own career path?

I looked for a stable and rewarding career - that was challenging. So becoming a Chartered Accountant, ticked those boxes.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself when starting out in your career?

Be more time efficient - it is an asset you cannot own.

What is your style of mentoring?

Be approachable - avoiding being rigid or having too strong of an opinion. Remember, you are there to help people learn.

What skills or knowledge do you value in a student who is looking for a graduate role?

Determination - whatever work they do, be it, working on a farm, or bank. Be committed to getting the work done, on time.

What do you hope to achieve as a mentor?

I keep my sessions more of discussions and less of goal setting. I keep targets to ensure regular discussions and if the mentee has a task to achieve, we work together on that.

As one of our overseas mentors, how have you found international mentoring?

Exciting - as you can really experience how small the world really is.

What advice would you give to other mentors who are based outside of the UK?

I encourage them to participate - just give it a try.
