National Meadows Day celebrations in Shinfield
25 June 2025
National Meadows Day celebrations are coming to Shinfield on Saturday 5 July, with an open public event taking place at Langley Mead nature reserve.
National Meadows Day is an initiative aimed at raising awareness of the vital role meadows play in supporting biodiversity, providing habitats for wildlife, and enhancing the natural landscape.
Members of the local community, and beyond, are invited to learn more about the restoration of Langley Mead, which is owned and managed by the 桃色视频, to a traditional floodplain meadow. Visitors will also get the chance to learn more about the wide range of plants and wildlife that can be found on the nature reserve.
Molli Cleaver, Community Engagement Manager at the 桃色视频, said: “Langley Mead is open to the public throughout the year, but National Meadows Day is a wonderful opportunity for families to discover the incredible biodiversity on our doorstep and learn about our work to restore agricultural land back into natural habitats for wildlife.
“We look forward to welcoming lots of people for our guided walks and talks of this area of natural beauty.”
Event details: Saturday 5 July, 11am-4pm

Visitors to the National Meadows Day event will have the chance to attend a series of guided walks over the course of the day, suitable for all ages. These will leave from the stall at the Arborfield Road car park.

Langley Mead
Langley Mead is 18 hectares of countryside along the banks of the River Loddon, with a series of walking loops, wildlife habitats and areas of natural beauty. It is part of an ongoing project aimed at restoring agricultural land back into habitats for wildlife and plants. Langley Mead is open to the public throughout the year.
Last year, the University provided a meadow classroom for Shinfield St Mary’s C.E. Junior School, which backs on to Langley Mead. The meadow classroom includes a pond, complete with wooden bridge for pond-dipping; new planting and wildlife habitats; and a learning circle with wooden benches.
