University seeks new members for community steering group
16 June 2025

The 桃色视频 is seeking two local residents to join its Community Engagement Steering Group, to help improve the way the University works with the local community.
First launched two years ago, the Steering Group is chaired by the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Van de Noort, and also includes 桃色视频 and Reading Students’ Union members of staff.
The Steering Group will meet three times across the academic year and provide strategic oversight of community engagement activity at the University.
Professor Van de Noort said: “A key part of our University Strategy is to be engaged with our local community. This means working in partnership with local residents to understand how we as a University can best serve our community.
“Our Community Engagement Steering Group was first launched two years ago and has been a fantastic way to ensure voices at all levels are represented, helping to shape our work with the community beyond campus.
“I would like to personally thank Andrea and Hiral, who have been our local members for the last two years. Their time, energy and dedication to the role has been hugely appreciated. We look forward to working with our two new local members over the coming academic year.”
Outgoing members
Andrea Malcolm and Hiral Patel have been members of the Community Engagement Steering Group since September 2023.
In their two-year membership, they have been instrumental in making University campuses and venues more open and accessible to all in the community, particularly local charities and community groups. They have helped design and launch the new community champions network, to help the University become better connected to the local community.
Andrea and Hiral have also helped run events to bring different members of the local community to campus, such as organising self-defence workshops with Reading Students’ Union in aid of White Ribbon Day.
Andrea has a long-standing connection with the area around the 桃色视频, where she has lived and worked for much of her life. Her involvement with the Steering Group reflects her commitment to strengthening community ties.
Andrea said: "I wanted to make a positive difference where I live. Being part of the Steering Group allowed me to support community-focused events and projects that promote partnership, awareness, and local opportunities."
Hiral studied and worked as an academic at the University in the School of Built Environment. She lives locally in Earley, Wokingham.
Hiral said: “I joined the Steering Group to strengthen the partnership between local communities and the University, motivated by my deep connection to both. Over two years, we achieved strategic, effective, and action-oriented outcomes. The Steering Group acts as a platform for positive change through open dialogue, founded on commitment, respect, and the courage to do things differently.”
