Fees and funding for UK students

The ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ will charge undergraduate home tuition fees (for students from the UK/Northern Ireland) at the upper limit set by the UK Government for the relevant academic year.

As set by the UK government, the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ's home tuition fees for 2026/27 entry will be:

• Undergraduate degree programmes: £9,790 for the academic year 2026/27, then subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study.
• Integrated foundation degree programmes (lab-based subjects): £9,790 for the academic year 2026/27, then subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study.
• Integrated foundation degree programmes (non-lab-based subjects): £5,760 for the academic year 2026/27 then rising to the undergraduate fees for the rest of your study, which will be subject to annual increases.

You can apply for a government tuition fee loan to cover the cost of your degree. If you’re eligible for funding through Student Finance authorities – which most UK students will be – you don’t have to pay any tuition fees upfront. .

UK students can get government loans to help towards their living costs, known as ‘maintenance loans’. If you choose to take out both a fees loan and a maintenance loan, these will be rolled together and repaid only after graduation through the tax system, as a proportion of your income over £25,000.

You may be eligible for other grants and bursaries, depending on your circumstances. For example, there is additional support for:

For students starting their programme in 2025/26 or later, the Reading Bursary is £1,500 per year of eligibility.

It is available for enrolled, eligible full-time undergraduate students from England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland:

• whose household income falls below £27,000, and
• who have a home address that falls within an area of low participation of young people progressing into higher education (POLAR4 or TUNDRA quintile 1 or 2), or would be considered to be from an area of general disadvantage according to the UK government's Indices of Multiple Deprivation (quintile 1 or 2).

Eligible students will receive an automatic bursary (no need to apply) of £1,500 as a cash bursary. The Reading Bursary will be made available to eligible students throughout their degree programme.

If you spend a full academic year studying abroad or working on a placement as part of your degree, you’ll only pay partial tuition during the year away from Reading. This is currently set at 15% of the standard tuition fee and applies to home and international students.

You’ll still need to budget for local living costs (such as accommodation, food, travel, visa fees and medical insurance), which may be more expensive if you spend the year abroad. Home-fee students can apply for a placement bursary to help cover expenses. 

This applies only to situations where the whole year is spent abroad or on placement. Where only a part of the year is spent abroad or on placement, the full tuition fee is payable to the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ as usual.
